Tori Amos celebrated her 51st birthday at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, FL with 1,000 or so, screaming fans. She took to the stage in silken, technicolor garments and wasted no time in getting down to what she does best; perform. Precariously perched between a piano and keyboard, she slyly smashed through pieces like “Leather”, “Raspberry Swirl”, and “Cornflake Girl”.
Of course, known by most, and a treat for any fan, is her masterful skill at taking on her discography in new ways that sometimes sound less familiar than they do on record. You’d be hard pressed to find two identical performances of one song. This show was no different. Full of improv, sass, and dedication, Tori was in her zone.
As always, she threw in a couple unexpected covers to flesh out her set; “Thank You” by Led Zeppelin, and “Thank U” by Alanis Morrissette. Both were inspired takes, with just the right amount of Tori charm. The best moment of the night? The entire audience singing Happy Birthday to her right before she performed her encore set.
Tori Amos is on tour through November 21, 2014 in support of her 14th studio album, “Unrepentant Geraldines”.
